Meet Our Project Teachers

Daniel Weiss

My name is Daniel Weiss aka (also known as) Leblanc aka Blanco from the Upper West Side of Manhattan and have been working at SIELP since the beginning of the current millennium.  When not teaching, I am usually writing or thinking about writing.

Heather Conn

I am an English teacher at Information Technology H.S. in Long Island City. This is my second year as a project teacher at the wonderful SIELP. At SIELP improving English language and reading skills is always a fun experience.  In the project class, we learn the history of American Revolution and create fun research projects using team work and technology. I feel fortunate to teach in this excellent program.

Sawpna Rao

Hi!  I am Swapna Rao, and I am new to the SIELP program this year.  I’m a project teacher for classes 1 and 2, and so far I think the program and the kids are really great.  I was born in Manhattan, spent a few short years in Brooklyn, and then really grew up in Staten Island.  I lived a while in Boston, but now I live back in Brooklyn, the best borough ever, in my opinion!  I recently graduated from New York University with my Masters degree in Education (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).  In September I will begin my first year as a full-time New York City public school teacher at the Bushwick School for Social Justice, a small high school in Brooklyn.  I am definitely excited about teaching ESL there and participation in advisory, but I am also a littler nervous.  I hope it goes well!
