This is another essay from 2001

   Greek Immigration, Food and Religion.

Greece got its independence from a Ottoman Empire in 1892. Although they had their  independence, they were tired of living in their country, so after that year they started to immigrate to many places including the U.S. They had to face many problems in starting a new life in the country including, people who are Anti-Greek. However, through their food and religion Greek Americans still practice their culture in the U.S.

Greek people started immigrating in 1880, because of their economic conditions and because they  were tired of the Ottoman rule. However, they had their independence. Anyway they wanted to leave. People in the countryside  started immigrating to big cities such as Athens, others started to immigrate to America.

Large-scale of Greek immigration, began to come in 1890; between 1890-1910 was largest wave of immigrants in American-300.000 of them, and about others  30.00 between 1911, and 1920. They were mostly poor people from villages.
